Featured Winery - Meyer Family Vineyards

2006 saw the start of a new winery in the Okanagan - Meyer Family Vineyards. A small 3.1acre vineyard on the Naramata Bench was purchased by JAK Meyer and his wife Janice Stevens which contained 10 year old Chardonnay vines.

Their goal is to produce some of the best single vineyard Chardonnay in Canada. To do this they enlisted experts in their fields to form the Meyer Family Vineyards' team.

A total of 630 cases of chardonnay are produced by Meyer Family Vineyards. Two different styles of chardonnay will be avaialble: Micro Cuvée and Tribute Series. Micro Cuvée was created when they identified some outstanding wine in five of their French oak barrels during one of their blending sessions. These five barrels were blended and bottled to produce 111 cases of Micro Cuvée.

The Tribute Series were produced from barrels that met strict quality criteria, or they were sold in bulk to another winery. Just 515 cases of the Tribute Series was produced. The 2006 vintage is a tribute to Emily Carr, one of western Canada's greatest artists. As such, the Meyer Family will award a $5000 scholarship to assist promising artists at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

To launch the Meyer Family Vineyards' wines, there will be an inaugural tasting at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in February on Feb 12, 2008. MyWinePal will be there to attend this event and provide tasting notes on these wines.
